Our Sol-fa and Composer Study classes are taught by RaeAnna Goss, author of The Composer Study Companion and creator of Solfa Sofa! She’s an expert in the Charlotte Mason method of teaching music and she’s a Charlotte Mason homeschooling mom! You can learn more about RaeAnna Goss here.

RaeAnna Goss - Charlotte Mason Music Expert at The Charlotte Mason Co-opYou have two options for Solfa & Composer Study:

  • Option #1: Recorded Class (composer Guisseppe Verdi)
  • Option #2: Recorded Class (composer Edward Grieg)

Composer Study: Using elements from The Composer Study Companion and a Thomas Tapper biography, students will listen to and analyze music from the selected composer.

Solfa: Each lesson will include skills and drills in music theory through solfege. Students of all abilities are welcome! RaeAnna will provide beginning instruction on solfa and music theory but also allow students with prior knowledge of theory to grow in their skill and ability!

CLASS DESCRIPTION FROM RAEANNA:

Have you pushed aside solfa learning for your children because it didn’t fit into your schedule or family needs?

In these classes, your children will be learning sight-singing and ear-training through games and activities as well as the free Solfa Sofa videos.
This class is aimed at elementary-aged children at any level of solfege and music training.

In addition to our singing skills, we will spend time learning about music history through the biography and music of our selected composer. The lessons found in our Composer Study Companion group will bring “active listening” into your music appreciation lessons!

RECORDED CLASSES: Solfa & Composer Study
Guisseppe Verdi
Edward Grieg

Composer Study: Using elements from The Composer Study Companion and a Thomas Tapper biography, students will listen and analyze music from the composer.

Solfa: Each lesson will include skills and drills in music theory through solfege. Students of all abilities are welcome! RaeAnna will provide beginning instruction on solfa and music theory but also allow students with prior knowledge of theory to grow in their skill and ability!

RaeAnna’s class was a wonderful addition to our curriculum! She is very sweet, engaging and knowledgeable! She was very encouraging of all the children and gave them many opportunities to interact.

  2. Jami

I highly recommend RaeAnna’s Solfa/Composer classes! She is warm and personable with the students. The content is engaging, fun and thorough. She also does a great job of communicating with parents and keeping you in the loop of what she is covering and she shares additional resources to further enrich the course content. Definitely worth the time & money. We will be taking more classes with her in the future for sure!

I highly recommend the FUN WITH SOL-FA AND COMPOSER STUDY with Miss RaeAnna. The content of the class is accessible and interesting, and my kids looked forward to each class. There is plenty of content to cover during the off week, too, and lots of room for motivated students to really take off. Maybe most importantly: RaeAnna is a gem in the online learning world– she transcends the dreaded potential “digital disconnect” and reaches each student with intention and warmth. Applause!

  4. Megan Wilds (verified owner)

Miss RaeAnna was amazing! I loved how there was a variety of mini topics within the class time and that each section was short because it was very engaging for my 8 year old daughter. There were a lot of fun games and interactive activities that really help the children to learn and retain the information. I learned a lot about music myself even though I had been in chorus growing up, so this class has something for everyone! RaeAnna Goss really went above and beyond by adding all the YouTube videos and other links for further explanation and study. There was a lot of meat to this course but it was also very concise, simple, and easily explained to where everyone can understand. We loved it and learned a lot!

We have absolutely loved our Thursday morning Fun with Solfa and Composer Study class with RaeAnna. RaeAnna is so enthusiastic that we couldn’t help but get excited about Verdi and all of the amazing music topics covered this semester. We learned so much and grew as musicians. RaeAnna went out of her way to tailor the class to the students in attendance and she truly reached out to form relationships with each of the families. My kids and I are very grateful for our semester with her and look forward to her future offerings here at The Plenary!
