Sharing the beauty of art with children is something we feel strongly about here at The Plenary. Giving students a love and appreciation of art is something that will stay with them throughout their lives. When we introduce art to children through Picture Study, they build lifelong connections to the painter, the painting, and to the world itself.

“We cannot measure the influence that one or another artist has upon the child’s sense of beauty, upon his power of seeing, as in a picture, the common sights of life; he is enriched more than we know in having really looked at even a single picture.” ~ Charlotte Mason

At The Plenary, we want to make teaching picture study simple, beautiful, and easy for you.

Each Picture Study Guide includes:

  • Instructions on how to teach picture study
  • A brief biography of the artist
  • Eight (8) prints of the artist’s work
  • Detail information about each painting

That’s all you need to bring the beauty of picture study into your home. We give you several options to best suit your family’s needs:

Our Plenary PDF Download option gives you the flexibility to study each high-resolution image from your computer or tablet, or to print the paintings yourself from home or at your local print shop.

If you would like us to do the printing for you, simply choose our Plenary Prints and we will mail them to you, complete and ready to use. Each painting is printed in full color on cardstock durable enough for school use. Please allow 1-2 weeks for Media Mail shipping.

If you are teaching multiple students, we offer Extra Plenary Prints at a reduced price. This allows you to provide each child their own set of prints.

All Plenary Curriculum Products are free of religious content. This includes our Picture Study Guides. We have carefully selected non-religious images from each artist. We know that you are teaching your personal beliefs to your children and we do not want to interfere with that teaching. Any time you choose The Plenary, you can trust that our products are suitable for all families.

In an effort to keep printing costs low, we also offer additional free resources on a Resources page for each artist. For example, if you’d like more information about Vermeer, simply click on the Vermeer Resources button listed below.

Although our Picture Study Guides are complete when purchased, you can find even more information on each artist’s Resources page such as:

  • Additional background information
  • Informative links about featured paintings
  • Recommended books and additional websites

These additional free resources will enhance your Picture Study experience even more.

For more detailed information on how to implement Picture Study, please see our Picture Study Throughout the Forms article.

Check back often, as we will be adding more links and more resources as new Picture Study Guides become available.
